Admission Requirements for Graduate Study in French

High proficiency in speaking, reading and writing in French and English is expected, as well as general knowledge of literary theory and the history, culture and literature of the French speaking world. The department invites applicants whose academic background promises great potential for scholarly achievement in the future. In addition to The Graduate School’s requirements, prospective students must also prepare to submit the following documents:

1. Statement of Academic Purpose

2. 3 Letters of recommendation

3. Curriculum Vitae

4. Writing samples: one in English and one in French (max. 15 pages)

5. Transcripts for all secondary institutions attended

Special Admission Requirements

All international students whose native language is not English and whose undergraduate degree is from a foreign, non-anglophone institution, must submit scores of the test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or IELTS.
