Summer Internships

Embassy of France in the USA internship programs.  The French Embassy in association with the French-American Chamber of Commerce offers various types of short-term internships in France.

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Summer Internship Program is an annual program to provide an opportunity for graduate students to learn about IDB operations and acquire work experience for two months at the professional level through on-the-job training during their summer vacation.

The United Nations Headquarters: Internship Programme is an annual program to promote among the participants a better understanding of major problems confronting the world and to give them insight into how the United Nations attempts to find solutions to these problems.

The United Nations Office at Geneva: Graduate Study Programme is an annual three week summer program to focus on issues relating to environment, development, human rights and humanitarian affairs, and to provide an opportunity for participants to deepen their understanding of the United Nations system through first-hand observation and study.

CIEE work abroad programs in Canada.

Center for Cultural Interchange (CCI) offers volunteer internships in Italy and France.  “As a CCI Internship participant, you will be placed in an internship related to your course of study while living with a screened host family.  It’s a wonderful way to improve your foreign language fluency and gain real world experience!”

Internships International offers placements in France.

The Moore Undergraduate Research Apprentice Program brings a cohort of diverse undergraduates (rising juniors and seniors) to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus for an intensive, ten-week research experience. Students are expected to develop a 20-page research project under the guidance of a faculty mentor with whom they are paired according to areas of study and research interests.

Volunteer Internships

Little Brothers–Friends of the Elderly offers a volunteer placement in France.

InterExchange offers volunteer placements abroad.

Association pour la Participation et l’Action Régionale (Association for Regional Participation and Action) offers volunteer work camps in Provence.

Other Fellowships/Opportunities

Thomas Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship Program. Open to sophomores at time of enrollment interested in masters program relevant to international affairs.

The Carter Center. Internships are offered throughout the year to undergraduate juniors and seniors, recent graduates, and graduate/professional students who have demonstrated superior academic ability and who have course work, professional, or personal experience, and career interests related to Carter Center programs.

The French Government offers many programs of interest.  A 2008 graduate, Katie Yeaworth, is teaching in France thanks to a program the government offers.  Visit the official website of the cultural services of the French Embassy for more information.

The Teaching Assistant Program in France offers the opportunity to work in France for 7 months, teaching English to French students of all ages. Each year, over 1,100 American citizens and permanent residents teach in public schools across all regions of metropolitan France and in the overseas departments of French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Réunion.

The U.S. Department of Education is offering support to students who are committed to completing an M.A.T. degree and teaching French, German, or Spanish. Participants in the GAANN fellowship program receive an annual stipend of $30,000 and a full tuition waiver. The Institute of International Education is launching the Global Careers Service to assist fellowship recipients in programs administered by IIE to obtain leadership-track positions in their home countries in important fields in the business, non-governmental, and non-profit sectors.

Intrax. Professional career development program pairs successful, ambitious students with leading companies in major business centers around the world.

Fulbright. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, the Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers opportunities for recent graduates, postgraduate candidates, and developing professionals and artists to conduct career-launching study and research abroad.

The Lilly Fellows Program in Humanities and the Arts offers a Two-Year, Residential Postdoctoral Fellowship Program at Valparaiso University for teacher-scholars who seek to renew and enrich their intellectual and professional lives while preparing for leadership roles at church-related institutions of higher learning.
