A poem by Ximena Gómez, translated from the Spanish by the author and George Franklin.

Garden of pleasures
In the backyard.
A toilet without a lid,
An alcove
Buried in the grass.
Inside caterpillars, stink bugs,
A dove’s nest.
The stem of a lilac bush
Wraps around its belly.
A fly courts
The feces of a horse.
God is smiling.
