Math Department Sponsors Yoga Event
The Department of Mathematics hosted a free yoga class for the campus community on Friday, September 20. A baker’s dozen yogis were led by Highland Yoga instructor Kelly Swanton in an invigorating session of vinyasa-style yoga. Free yoga mats were distributed to all undergraduates who needed one.
Department Chair Dan Margalit participated. In his words, “Mathematics, and education in general, is a full body activity. This is why we encourage our students to stand up and work at the blackboard during class – it actually helps you think.” He went on to say that “We want to remind our students that taking care of themselves physically and emotionally is at least as important as keeping up with coursework. As we get into the busier part of the semester, please take care of yourselves and each other, and let us know in the Math Department how we can help!”
