Former Postdoc Wins CNRS Bronze Medal
Romain TesseraRomain Tessera, a former postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Mathematics, has been awarded the 2013 Bronze Medal in Mathematics by the French Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS). The CNRS Bronze Medal recognizes a researcher’s first work, which makes that person a specialist with talent in a particular field. It is intended to encourage the researcher to continue work that has met with initial success and already produced fruitful results.
Tessera?s esearch lies in the areas of geometric group theory and analysis on metric spaces. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Cergy-Pontoise in France and the University of Neuch?tel in Switzerland in 2006. He was a mathematics postdoc at Vanderbilt from 2006-2009 and is now a researcher at CNRS.
In 2010, Tessera was awarded the Department of Mathematics? first Aldroubi Azhari Price for Excellence in Postdoctoral Research. The Aldroubi Azhari Prize is awarded every two years to a current or recent postdoc in recognition of outstanding research.
