Our group is interested in the neuroendocrine regulation of feeding and pathogenesis of obesity. We also study neural regulation of peripheral metabolism including lipoprotein and glucose metabolism toward a better understanding of the neural underpinnings of diabetes and metabolic syndrome. We are also increasingly interested in shared mechanisms between obesity and diabetes pathogenesis and common neuropsychiatric co-morbidities. We utilize model systems ranging from neuronal culture to human investigation and techniques involving molecular biology, biochemistry, metabolic clamps, behavioral testing, and imaging.
