Graduate Leadership Institute offers workshops, grant funding
The Russel G. Hamilton Graduate Leadership Institute aims to help students be intentional in your training at Vanderbilt. GLI provides students with the skills, tools, and self-awareness that will allow them to lead at all levels through programming that facilitates a greater understanding of personal leadership style and interactions with others. It will also help enhance one’s practical skills, while focusing on training well-rounded scholars with an enhanced capacity to lead. GLI supports students through skills events and grant funding.

Graduate Leadership Institute Skills Workshops
- Feedback & Development Best Practices Workshop – Tuesday, Sept. 6 from 2 to 4 p.m.
- Presence: Speaking with Authority – Thursday, Oct. 13 from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m.
- The Art of Negotiation – Monday, Oct. 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Four frames of Leadership – Wednesday, Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Graduate Leadership Institute Grants
- Graduate Student Programming Grant – Awards of up to $2,000 will be granted through this funding opportunity. Additional funds may be available should the scale and impact of the program be deemed exceptional. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis during the academic year until funds are expended.
- Professional Development and Training Grants – The GLI will provide up to $1,000 of support for graduate students seeking non-credit bearing professional development and training opportunities to further develop their academic and professional skills. Eligible activities include, but are not limited to, training workshops, short courses, conferences (where the student has not submitted an abstract*), etc. Deadlines are listed on the website. Next application cycle opens Nov. 1.
- Dissertation Enhancement Grants – The GLI provides awards of up to $2,000 for research expenses related to a student’s dissertation. These funds are granted on a competitive basis and are designed to support PhD Students with outstanding potential to accelerate progress on their research, adding depth or breadth to their work. Deadlines are listed on the GLI website. Next application cycle opens Nov. 1.
- Graduate School Conference Travel Grant – Students are encouraged to present their research at major regional, national, and international conferences. The Graduate School Travel Grant to Present Research will provide up to $500 in travel support for graduate students presenting their research at major meetings and conferences. Applications must be completed at least two weeks before travel.
