In this study center program, students enroll in 10 semester hours of Chinese language coursework in Shanghai, home to the world's first commercial high-speed Maglev train and the world's largest container port. Students fast track their Mandarin language skills by meeting with a language instructor for 30 minutes, for to five times per week, meeting with peer language tutors, going to the Chinese language clinic. Students also live in Chinese-only speaking environments, either with a Chinese host family, or on campus with a Chinese roommate. In addition to their coursework, students can explore the city, going on weekly visits to local markets, museums, temples, and acrobat shows, or taking free classes in Chinese cooking, calligraphy, martial arts, music and mahjong.
