Fall SAVY 2019: Day 3 – Strength and Structure of Engineering Materials (Grades 5/6)

Posted by on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 in Grade 5, Grade 6, SAVY.

I can’t believe we’re done already! Three Saturdays went by quickly.

This past weekend we learned about macroscopic and microscopic failure surfaces.  Essentially, how we can look at a broken part and determine the type of failure. The three types of failure we focused on were ductile, brittle, and fatigue failure.  There are different macroscopic and microscopic features that characterize each failure type.

Open house was a great showcase of everyone’s work over the past three weeks.  Everyone did a great job and learned a ton of information.  I encourage everyone to continue to think about structures as time goes on and I hope to see you back at a future SAVY class.

Have a great fall!
