Summer Career Connections at SAVY 2018: Session 6, Day 5 – Science of Emotion (Rising 7th)

Posted by on Friday, July 27, 2018 in SAVY, Uncategorized.

Dear SAVY Parents,

Thank you to everyone who came to our Open House this afternoon! These SAVY scholars have put in a lot of hard work this week, and we hope that they are as proud of their accomplishments as we are!

Students spent the morning preparing for and presenting their elevator talks (some of which you heard this afternoon). In these elevator talks, each student posed their research question, stated their hypotheses, identified the dependent and independent variables of their experiments, described the methods with which to measure these variables, and discussed the social implications of the results of their experiments. After a student presented to the class, classmates asked the presenter questions and offered suggestions to improve their experiments. We had very interesting research questions all-around! For example: how does social media affect stress in different age groups? How does calorie intake affect mood? How do emotions sway human decision? How do different genres of music affect the emotions of people with autism?

This afternoon, before Open House, we played a couple review games to refresh our memories on all the vocabulary that students learned this week.

Parents, we encourage your child to continue reading their How Emotions are Made texts if they have any interest in expanding their knowledge of psychology. Once again, thank you for attending Open House, and thank you for sharing your child with us this week.

Have a great rest of the summer, and an even better school year!
-Marcus, Kelly, and Maya (TA)
