Summer SAVY 2017, Session 6/Day 4- Mystery and History (Rising 4th/5th)

Our detective historians have had a full day’s work uncovering mysterious societies of the past!

Today we journeyed into early North American Native American societies.  We began by thinking about the different types of evidence societies leave behind.  Then we used our handy list to help us think about the clues left behind by the Mound Builders or Mississippian Societies and by the Anasazis in the Southwest.  We compared the drastically different landscapes and characteristics of their towns, but we also found similarities in the elements that made up their societies.  We used this information to help us draw conclusions about the societies, and we considered several theories that might explain their mysterious disappearance.

This afternoon, our detectives worked together to create their own Mound Building and Anasazi towns.  Working in teams, they came up with the characteristics that they wanted each town to have.  They used this information to create some really fantastic posters.  Finally, they explained their towns to one another.  What a great day!
