Provost’s WAVE Council – Women’s Advancement & Equity

Overview

The goal of the overall initiative is to develop progressive and innovative solutions and practices to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to succeed, no matter what gender they identify with. The council will look closely at the university’s practices, culture and support structure for the broad array of women faculty, students and postdoctoral fellows at Vanderbilt.

The council will:

  1. Identify and define thematic pillars upon which to focus efforts and when appropriate convene working groups or mobilize existing relevant, “linked” committees to do work associated with a particular pillar;
  2. Review working group and committee reports and recommendations, and analyze them in conjunction with other thematic pillars to ensure progress is being made; and
  3. Be connected to and aware of related work across campus, partnering on areas of common efforts for staff.

The council has established four subcommittees to focus on key thematic pillars:

  1. Campus Climate and Sexual Harassment Subcommittee
  2. Institutionalized Professional Practice Subcommittee
  3. Parental Leave, Childcare, and Family Friendly Policies Subcommittee
  4. Compensation Equity Subcommittee

In response to the pandemic, a new task force has been established. The WAVE COVID-10 Task Force will work to address gender equity concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
