Moore College

Opened in August 2014, Moore College is located on West End Avenue near 21st Avenue South. Moore College provides state-of-the art accommodations inside gothic-style architecture reminiscent of historic Kirkland Hall. It houses 341 upperclass students in four, five and six-person suites as well as traditional double and single rooms. Students live on all floors of this six story building. Lounges, study areas, music rooms, conference rooms, as well as common kitchen and laundry facilities are provided for building residents. The fifth floor includes an apartment for the Faculty Director. The building is fully air conditioned. Corridors and common areas are carpeted. Student rooms have tiled floors.

One of Vanderbilt’s upper class college halls, residency in Moore College requires participation in the College Halls Meal Plan.

Moore College is named in honor of Stanford Moore, a 1935 Vanderbilt graduate who received the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1972. It is divided into two halls:

Rice Hall, named in honor of Henry Grantland Rice, a 1901 Vanderbilt graduate and the most famous American sports writer during the first half of the 20th century;
Smith Hall, named in honor of the Rev. Kelly Miller Smith, a civil rights leader and assistant dean of Vanderbilt Divinity School from 1968 to 1984.

The College is led by a Faculty Director. Each hall is led by a Graduate Fellow.

Moore and Warren Colleges are connected by Kissam Center, providing gathering spaces, “grab-and-go” dining options, a classroom, offices and meeting rooms.
