Spring 2019 Housing Information
General Information – The Undergraduate Residential Requirement:
Vanderbilt University is a residential campus, and the residential experience is understood to be an integral part of a Vanderbilt education. This commitment to residential education is clearly expressed in the University’s residential requirement:
“All unmarried undergraduate students must live in residence halls on campus during the academic year, May session, and summer sessions. Authorization to live elsewhere is granted at the discretion of the Director of Housing Assignments in special situations or when space is unavailable on campus.” (2018/2019 Student Handbook)
Spring Housing Application
All students who are currently participating in an overseas program, completing an out of town internship or on a leave of absence for the fall semester and are eligible to return to Vanderbilt for the spring semester are required to complete the Spring Housing Application. The Spring Housing Application will be available online in the Student Housing Portal from November 1, 2018 through November 30, 2018.
Students will be able to indicate building preferences, and make roommate/hallmate requests on the application. A maximum of three (3) roommate or hallmate requests can be made, and only mutual requests will be considered. Roommate and hallmate requests are not guaranteed.
Living Learning Communities (LLC’s):
Students who would like to be considered for admission to the McTyeire International House and/or the McGill Project must complete the Spring Housing Application and submit a McTyeire and/or McGill Application. Applications are available here. McTyeire and McGill applications should be submitted by November 16, 2018 at 4:30PM CST.
Requests for Off-Campus Authorization:
Returning students who plan to graduate in May 2019 may request off-campus authorization. For eligible students, the Spring Off-Campus Housing Application will be available in the Student Housing Portal. In order to be considered for off-campus authorization, students must complete both the Spring Housing Application and the Spring Off-Campus Housing Application. Failure to submit both applications will result in the cancelation of the Spring Off-Campus Application.
Please note that requests for off-campus authorization may be denied. Off-campus authorization decisions will be announced via email on or before December 14, 2018. Students who have been denied off-campus authorization will be assigned to available spaces on campus. Students seeking off-campus authorization should not make off-campus arrangements (placing a deposit, signing a lease, etc.) until they have received formal authorization from the Director of Housing Assignments to reside off-campus.
Requests for Reasonable Accommodation:
Any student seeking reasonable accommodation in the spring 2019 housing assignment process due to a documented medical, psychological or disability impairment should contact Student Access Services (SAS). Additional information can be found here. All requests for reasonable accommodation for spring 2019 housing must be submitted by November 30, 2018.
