Of daylilies along the dividers.<\/p>\n<p>A summer to visit Blackbeard\u2019s hiding place, his last inlet battleground.<br \/>\nFor a few months he burned through its waterways<\/p>\n<p>and now a dozen shops in town consecrate his grave with flags:<br \/>\na spear, a heart, a skeleton \u2013 but what you remember is the hourglass.<\/p>\n<p>This is the summer to walk Ocracoke\u2019s sand, a line in the water,<br \/>\na long island where wild ponies live in a pen behind two fences<\/p>\n<p>by an observation deck. But you see the white horse in the next paddock,<br \/>\nwatching the whole scene.
