From far away,<br \/>\neach one is lost in the scatter,<br \/>\nthe flock or what is now becoming<br \/>\nthe flock veers in the bob and weave of panicked flight.<br \/>\nIt has worked for generations, why not now?<br \/>\nAfter the gunshot\u2019s interruption runs its course<br \/>\nthey return more annoyed than afraid<br \/>\nto the ground, no nostalgia, nothing remembered.<br \/>\nThey hop from place to place or stick and swivel earthward<br \/>\nto turn the tiny clods that may be hiding dinner.<br \/>\nHow long does a bird stay full?<br \/>\nIt is important for the hunter to know<br \/>\nwhere they concentrated before.<br \/>\nWhere they have been and are not now<br \/>\na carcass lies.
