into the Witch<br \/>\nwhen the moon swings she wakes with bellyaches<br \/>\nshe fingers herself most mornings<br \/>\nshe&#8217;s lonely the Witch aren&#8217;t they all<br \/>\nshe eats cold chicken feet<br \/>\nshe buys by the dozen<br \/>\nfrom the Piggly Wiggly up Stillman<br \/>\n&amp; then it rains<br \/>\ninside her house + yellow sugar melts<br \/>\nwalls contract<br \/>\n+ slide down their sugar studs<br \/>\nshe opens her wide mouth + drinks down as much<br \/>\nof the sweet flood as she can<br \/>\non the flood the cast of the TV serial<br \/>\ncrew a small vessel a prop from episode 7,<br \/>\nbased on a true tale of water escape<br \/>\nthey are all experienced manners<br \/>\nof the vessel on set<br \/>\nthey know the lines to say &amp; the lines to pull<br \/>\nbut then the Witch accidently<br \/>\nswallows them<br \/>\n&amp; they sail up the dark hall of her throat<br \/>\nlike a kernel of pepper<br \/>\nthe Crew&#8217;s all a-titter<br \/>\nin her<br \/>\none of them lights a candle their only<br \/>\none + wax drips down onto the floor of the Witch<br \/>\na Witch is hollow inside but for the undercurl of rib<br \/>\nstuck in muscle + fat which is now the ceiling<br \/>\nof our world<br \/>\nthe Man-With-His-Shirt-Tucked-Under-His-Belly proclaims<br \/>\nhe thinks he&#8217;ll make captain<br \/>\nyou step forward to blow<br \/>\nout the candle + thereby preserve some<br \/>\nfor next day + day after + etc when presumably<br \/>\nyou\u2019ll still be stuck inside the Witch<br \/>\neveryone is mournful without the light<br \/>\nthey just float in the night-long silence<br \/>\nbut in the morning there\u2019s a surprise<br \/>\nsunrise inside the Witch the enlivening rays<br \/>\nof the sun cheer the Crew + in the sun they see a worldfull<br \/>\nof green + yellow continents + blue + purple oceans<br \/>\nto explore + surely there will be seasons even<br \/>\nwell hang me up by the cocktails it&#8217;s<br \/>\nNew Jerusalem the Man proclaims<br \/>\nbut no one&#8217;s listening<br \/>\nanymore &amp; you look over<br \/>\nat the Bestfriend character<br \/>\nyou&#8217;d been behindscenesing with<br \/>\n+ think of the stone cold Natives<br \/>\nyou\u2019ll meet in the New Witch<br \/>\nwho&#8217;ll wear clothing made<br \/>\nfrom incredibly thin fronds<br \/>\nof palm + ferns who&#8217;ll have<br \/>\nan entirely different code<br \/>\nof comportment involving<br \/>\ngroup massage + weekly<br \/>\nritualized coupling maybe it&#8217;s time<br \/>\nto be just friends<br \/>\nthen the Witch fingers<br \/>\nherself scrapes herself bare +<br \/>\neverything inside the Witch<br \/>\nwhen she comes jiggles like an egg<br \/>\nbefore it&#8217;s hardboiled &amp;<br \/>\nat last she digs a hole<br \/>\na very deep one to live in alone<br \/>\nthe end<\/p>\n<h6><a href=\"\/nashvillereview\/archives\/7911\">Freya Gibbon<\/a><\/h6>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>the Witch lives in a televised serial we watch her shadow darken a spare shot every 3 episodes or so tides pull out of &amp;
