appeared to the sofa, he has
\n_____<\/span>already been kind<\/p>\n

to the cat. The slow fatality
\n_____<\/span>of glass, flower vases<\/p>\n

starting to bubble. I imagine
\n_____<\/span>this. I don\u2019t move,<\/p>\n

or go inside. I sit on a paver
\n_____<\/span>on the lawn;<\/p>\n

I think other kindnesses:
\n_____<\/span>of gravy, a living-well,<\/p>\n

the cabinets leaning open
\n_____<\/span>like mothers\u2014<\/p>\n

saying eat well, sit a spell,<\/em>
\n_____<\/span> eat well<\/em>. And in the dark<\/p>\n

under my stone the ground
\n_____<\/span>is hiding, ground<\/p>\n

of worms, ground of salt,
\n_____<\/span>ground of the tapering<\/p>\n

tunnels filled soon
\n_____<\/span>with the birth flight<\/p>\n

of cicadas. They will shriek, speak.
\n_____<\/span>They won\u2019t open their mouths.<\/p>\n
