Myself, an animal,<br \/>\nflinching back from the horses. From the intimate<br \/>\nshove of their breath, the ropework of powerful muscle<br \/>\nbeneath their coats, vast and wild and slow.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the time of year we all need a good, hard rub<br \/>\nto shed the old, dry casing. Need uncommon mercy,<br \/>\nthe white umbel of wild ginseng at the forest\u2019s floor.<br \/>\nLove like a carrot in your fist.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, even death blooms here.<br \/>\nThe putrefaction of deer hung pendulous on dusk\u2019s hot gust,<br \/>\nwith the frogsong. With the new, pollen yellow of the wind<br \/>\narcing over a shoulder the color of cinnamon.<\/p>\n<p>Even death blooms here. Atop the lives of all the animals\u2014<br \/>\nour uniform, amniotic fragility surging underfoot.<br \/>\nBorn again each year to the same rough earth.<br \/>\nTo the same unimaginable luck.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h6><a href=\"https:\/\/wp0.vanderbilt.edu\/nashvillereview\/archives\/19361\">rOSE cOBB<\/a><\/h6>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This morning, the spell broke.
