We sun like skinks, listening to the plash<br \/>\nof creatures fording creeks. At some late hour,<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll lose my questions on the breeze, into trees<br \/>\nwho build themselves from nothing, patiently.<\/p>\n<p>My voice\u2014which wasn\u2019t in the world for many years<br \/>\nuntil it was\u2014enjoys diminishment in darkening woods.<\/p>\n<p>So much swells and shrinks again to sugar, echo, carbon.<br \/>\nDark shapes rut and whet their horns. Lacy claws grip bark,<\/p>\n<p>and diaphragms lurch over into croaks.
