\ntied to his belt loops, a man roller skates by.<\/p>\n

aaaaaaaaaaaaaa<\/span>His large feet flop like dying fish,
\naaaaaaaaaaaaaa<\/span>so near to falling and yet he sings: your hair upon the pillow<\/em><\/p>\n

like a sleepy golden storm<\/em> and I remember a season spent lying in bed
\nunder a skylight on the top floor of a stranger\u2019s Parisian apartment<\/p>\n

aaaaaaaaaaaaaa<\/span>singing though my hair is almost black. Constitutionally incapable
\naaaaaaaaaaaaaa<\/span>of doing anything halfway I had fallen in love with a man<\/p>\n

I did not respect. A man I did not even love.
\nWhy has he found me here in Queens? Nothing stays<\/p>\n

aaaaaaaaaaaaaa<\/span>fixed anymore. Someone waves and I wonder
\naaaaaaaaaaaaaa<\/span>if I know them. A mother climbs a tree, her daughter<\/p>\n

cries, unable to reach her. I have one photo of this man
\nI did not love taken through a train window as I roll away.<\/p>\n

aaaaaaaaaaaaaa<\/span>The most wonderful thing we did together was watch
\naaaaaaaaaaaaaa<\/span>Notre Dame burn from a park above the city. In that brief second<\/p>\n

no one knew what had happened. Now, let me ruin the moment: a worker
\nbecame careless with his cigarette high in the rafters. Why was it wonderful?<\/p>\n

aaaaaaaaaaaaaa<\/span>The drama, the brightness, the possibility of a hollow
\naaaaaaaaaaaaaa<\/span>in the midst of this calcified city. A place is free to become anything.<\/p>\n
