All the rainfall sucked<br \/>\nback through some straw<br \/>\nin the sky.<\/p>\n<p>The clouds fat<br \/>\nwith what they wouldn\u2019t give us. We once heard cackles<br \/>\nbetween the gaps<br \/>\nin the stratus. We saw a fire<br \/>\nstart out of drought, felt<br \/>\nthe smoke bruise our eyelids. Purpled<br \/>\nand puckered, those petals withered, too. Inside,<\/p>\n<p>a television buzzed<br \/>\ninto the cold mornings.<br \/>\nBetween the bathroom walls<br \/>\na cut straw plugged<br \/>\nMom\u2019s nose. Two more pills always tucked<br \/>\ninside her menthol pack.<\/p>\n<p>A dry wind would kick<br \/>\nour roof at night. We woke up next to notebooks<br \/>\nscribbled with another night\u2019s dream.<\/p>\n<p>Dad kicked doors.
