This morning, though, she heard<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff\">______<\/span>something closer, something solid fall upstairs,<\/p>\n<p>its crash escaping before she could find it, uncanny, too\u2014<br \/>\nwind in the curtains, all day walking through air,<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff\">______<\/span>breathing it in and out, and in the light<\/p>\n<p>a dark figure without mass tracking her.<br \/>\nShe&#8217;s never alone. For all she knows, the careless force<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff\">______<\/span>that dropped tulip petals around the vase<\/p>\n<p>could still be here, or any moment the puppets<br \/>\nstored in boxes could rise on wooden joints<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff\">______<\/span>to dance without their strings.<\/p>\n<p>No wonder climbing the stairs at night, she is wary<br \/>\nthe treads might creak underfoot, or a ghost-cat<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff\">______<\/span>brush against her leg. She has glimpsed<\/p>\n<p>a figment-motion crossing the living room\u2014a blur<br \/>\nthinner than morning fog\u2014and once, even heard<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff\">______<\/span>her name called at the edge of a dream.<\/p>\n<p>Then, what better proof than his empty pillow\u2014<br \/>\nhis presence in a scent as fugitive as the stir of motes<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff\">______<\/span>from shaking out a carpet?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h6><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.me\/p6Jypy-4ra\">Jane O.
