because I never read instructions right, and to freeze something entirely off
\n<\/span>my body seems like too much for me, who am not a doctor,
\n<\/span>to do alone, but I have done my research: warts grow
\n<\/span>on compromised skin, a white man tattooed \u201cfear itself\u201d
\n<\/span>on my wrist ten years ago, and I shouldn\u2019t have let him
\n<\/span>get that close to me in the first place\u2014I should have known
\n<\/span>a wart would grow there eventually, slowly at first,
\n<\/span>and then by this mid-summer a giant O
\n<\/span>where the E in FEAR used to be, a white orb swallowing
\n<\/span>the sentiment around it, and I should have known not
\n<\/span>to mark myself as so American, even though my first memory
\n<\/span>is standing below a WWII display at the FDR museum
\n<\/span>holding my white mother\u2019s hand and feeling fear for the first time,
\n<\/span>even though every morning I ate only off the presidents placemat
\n<\/span>and sloppily, so sometimes the sugared cereal lines crossed out
\n<\/span>their faces, and I\u2019m American too: I bought the most expensive
\n<\/span>wart removal kit they had at Target and I\u2019ll end up throwing it away\u2014
\n<\/span>that\u2019s how American I am, I don\u2019t care what I waste, I named
\n<\/span>all my dolls Eleanor Roosevelt, even the black Barbies\u2014
\n<\/span>the excuses are how the wart got this bad in the first place.<\/span><\/p>\n
