\nwhile she waited for him to finish. Like most couples<\/p>\n

who fight they\u2019d begun to say, this is healthy<\/em>.
\nThey said, I love you<\/em>. He said, insistently,<\/p>\n

I love you<\/em>. She said, exhausted, reminding him
\nagain, I love you<\/em>, as if it were a memory.<\/p>\n

This is how it went: her head against his back,
\nthe cigarette\u2019s end<\/p>\n

glowing and dimming
\nlike a breath, his shape reflected in the parked car\u2019s<\/p>\n

frozen window. From behind him her voice said,
\nlook, this is you<\/em>, then stepping out<\/p>\n

from his flank, this is me<\/em>, her face appearing
\nin the glass beside his own.<\/p>\n
