{"id":14807,"date":"2018-08-01T00:44:41","date_gmt":"2018-08-01T05:44:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp0.vanderbilt.edu\/nashvillereview\/?p=14807"},"modified":"2018-08-01T09:12:35","modified_gmt":"2018-08-01T14:12:35","slug":"ghost-psalm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp0.vanderbilt.edu\/nashvillereview\/archives\/14807","title":{"rendered":"Ghost Psalm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Soon no longer will I find you<br \/>\nas blown ash and bone<br \/>\nin flattened grasses where deer bed down<\/p>\n<p>but in the sun flare and flash that move<br \/>\nthrough this world as dapples<br \/>\non the backs of those we number in the field.<\/p>\n<p>Their bodies steam in the pre-dawn damp,<br \/>\nand when they rise they wear you in the mud<br \/>\nthatched to the v of their hooves<\/p>\n<p>and in the wet slicked to their fetlock\u2019s curl.<br \/>\nOn the slenderest of legs, they carry you<br \/>\npast what blurs into bramble and branch.<\/p>\n<p>Once you were the field and everything in it<br \/>\nthat grew while the sky, pearlescent<br \/>\nin its making and unmaking, slid over.<\/p>\n<p>Now you, who have already traveled<br \/>\nfrom one world to the next, must travel again<br \/>\nacross lowlands on the paws of the dog, on<\/p>\n<p>the hooves of the deer, docents of dirt<br \/>\neach divot recalls.
