Mundane objects are obscured by the situations in which they are arranged for the camera. The delicate and direct lighting of the objects is intended to evoke the style of commercial photography but is subverted by the quality of the \u00a0subject matter. He recently graduated from Vanderbilt University where he received an undergraduate English\/Creative Writing degree. In high school, Bryan was fortunate enough to be a part of Chicago\u2019s Louder than a Bomb poetry slam competition. He made it to the individual finals with his poem \u201cPops\u201d that was recorded for the WBEZ Chicago Branch of NPR (National Public Radio). While at Vanderbilt, he was published three times in the Vanderbilt Review and received the Merrill Moore Award for Poetry upon graduation. In 2017, his poem &#8220;It Speak(s)&#8221; was published in the Heavy Feather Review. She studied creative nonfiction at Illinois Wesleyan University, where she won the Nikki K. Pape President&#8217;s Club Award for Excellence in Writing. Her work explores how identity is shaped by queer relationships, unstable bodies and mental illness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><b>Oriette D&#8217;Angelo<\/b> (Caracas, 1990) is the editor of the literary platform Digo.palabra.txt, and the author of the book Cariopat\u00edas (Monte \u00c1vila Editores, 2016; Premio para Autores In\u00e9ditos 2014). She edited and made selections for an anthology of young Venezuelan poets,\u00a0<em>Amenecemos\u00a0sobre la palabra\u00a0<\/em>(Team Poetero Editions, 2017).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><b>Alisha Dietzman<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> was raised in the American South and Central Europe.\u00a0Her poetry has appeared in <i>Salt Hill<\/i>,<i> Bat City Review<\/i>,<i> Beloit Poetry Journal<\/i>,<i> DIAGRAM<\/i> and elsewhere. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><b>Mackenzie Dwyer<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><b>T<\/b><b>afisha A. Edwards<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> promises she&#8217;ll give up Pall Malls in 2019. She is the author of THE BLOODLET, winner of Phantom Books\u2019 2016 Breitling Chapbook Prize. Her work has appeared in <em>Bettering American Poetry 2015, Bettering American Poetry Volume 2, The Offing, PHANTOM, The Atlas Review, Bodega Magazine, Fjords Review, The Little Patuxent Review<\/em>, and other print and online publications. She is a graduate of the University of Maryland\u2019s Jimin\u00e9z-Porter Writers\u2019 House, a Cave Canem Graduate fellow, and a former educator with the American Poetry Museum. After receiving his BA from Princeton, he worked for several startups in San Francisco. His stories appear or are forthcoming in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gulf Coast<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">New England Review<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ploughshares<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, and elsewhere. His written work has recently appeared or is forthcoming in <em>The Adroit Journal, The Cortland Review, Tupelo Quarterly, The Indiana Review<\/em>, and others. He is the recipient of The Pushcart Prize, The Hopwood Award, and the AMPAS Student Academy Award. A candidate in the MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College, he currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Suzanne Jill Levine<\/strong> is a leading scholar, critic and translator of twentieth century Latin American literature, whose publications include hundreds of contributions to major anthologies and journals including the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">New Yorker<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (July 2009) and over 20 book length volumes of translations of some of the most challenging and original writing to come out of Latin America. For her translations, she has receive many honors including the maximum, i.e. three National Endowment for the Arts fellowship grants, as well as a National Endowment for the Humanities Research Grant, the first PEN USA West Elinor D. Randall Prize for Literary Translation and the PEN American Center International Career Achievement award in Hispanic letters.For her literary biography of Manuel Puig, she was awarded a NEH fellowship, a Rockefeller scholar residency at the Villa Serbelloni, Bellagio, and a John Simon Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship (1997). She currently teaches at UC Santa Barbara.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><b>Steven Leyva<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and raised in Houston, Texas. His poems have appeared or are forthcoming in<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> 2 Bridges Review<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fledgling Rag<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Light Ekphrastic<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Cobalt<\/span><\/i> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Review<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Vinyl<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, and<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Prairie Schooner<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. He is a Cave Canem fellow<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and author of the chapbook <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Low Parish<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. \u00a0Steven holds a MFA from the University of Baltimore, where he is an assistant professor in the Klein Family School of Communications Design.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Brenda Lozano<\/strong> (Mexico City, 1981) is a fiction writer, essayist and editor. She is the author of two novels:\u00a0<i>Todo nada<\/i>\u00a0(Tusquets, 2009), soon be adapted for the big screen; and\u00a0<i>Cuaderno ideal\u00a0<\/i>(Alfaguara 2014). In 2015 she was selected by Conaculta, the Hay Festival and the British Council as one of Mexico\u2019s best fiction writers under 40. In 2017 she was added to the Bogota 39 list, a selection of the best fiction writers under 40 from across Latin America. Her first short story collection,\u00a0<i>C\u00f3mo piensan las piedras<\/i>, was published in 2017.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><b>Tobie Nathan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is a distinguished, groundbreaking ethno-psychiatrist and professor emeritus of psychology at the University of Paris. In 1993 he founded the Centre Georges Devereux, a psychology clinic for immigrant families, and he has been the founding editor of several journals of ethno-psychiatry. Nathan, born to an Egyptian Jewish family with deep roots in old Cairo, is the author of over 25 books, including fiction, memoir, and scientific essays. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ce pays qui te ressemble<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> was shortlisted for the Prix Goncourt in 2015, and his memoir, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ethno-Roman<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> won the Prix Femina in 2012.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><b>Thomas Nguyen<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is a 2017 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, where he studied neuroscience and creative writing. He now lives in Manhattan where he is in his first year of the MS in Narrative Medicine program at Columbia University. Afterward, he hopes to pursue an MFA in poetry. His work is forthcoming or published in the <em>Bellevue Literary Review, Tinderbox Poetry Journal, Rust + Moth<\/em>, and <em>DIALOGIST<\/em>, among other journals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><b>Emma Catherine Perry<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is from Newfields, New Hampshire. She received her MFA from Cornell University. She taught creative writing at Cornell as a Truman Capote Lecturer, worked as an assistant editor with the literary journal<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> EPOCH, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and taught world literature at Auburn Correctional Facility in Auburn, New York. Emma has also taught creative writing to middle and high school students in Massachusetts, Louisiana, Texas, and California.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">She currently lives in Athens, Georgia where she is a doctoral student in the English department at the University of Georgia. Her work appears in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Susquehanna Review, Third Coast<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, and elsewhere. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><b>Adrienne Raphel <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">is the author of What Was It For (Rescue Press, 2017). Her poetry and essays have appeared in the <em>New Yorker<\/em> online, the <em>Paris Review Daily,<\/em> the <em>New Republic,<\/em> the P<em>oetry Foundation<\/em>, and <em>Lana Turner Journal<\/em>, among other publications. Born in New Jersey and raised in Vermont, Raphel currently lives in New York.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><b>Enrique Sacerio-Gar\u00ed <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">is the Dorothy Nepper Marshall Professor of Hispanic and Hispanic-American Studies. He has taught at Bryn Mawr since 1977. He is known for his work on Jorge Luis Borges (notably his edition of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Textos cautivos<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> with Emir Rodr\u00edguez Monegal), and for his poetry and translations. He has contributed poems to anthologies and magazines in the United States, Spain, Germany, India, China, Mexico, Chile and Cuba. She studies creative writing at Emory University.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span class=\"il\">Alice<\/span>\u00a0Whitmore<\/strong> (Melbourne, 1989) is the Pushcart-Prize nominated translator of two novels\u2014Guillermo Fadanelli\u2019s\u00a0<i>See You at Breakfast?\u00a0<\/i>(Giramondo 2016) and Mariana Dim\u00f3pulos&#8217;s\u00a0<i>All My Goodbyes<\/i>\u00a0(Giramondo 2017)\u2014and a number of poetry and essay selections. She is the Translations Editor for the <em>Cordite Poetry Review<\/em> and lectures in Spanish and Literary Studies at Monash University.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><b>Kyusaku Yumeno<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (1889-1936), which loosely translates to &#8220;a field where dreams are always growing,&#8221; was the pen-name of the Japanese writer Taid\u014d Sugiyama. Celebrated as one of Japan&#8217;s first avant-garde writers, he is notorious in particular for his invocations of Western imagery and his surreal, often downright bizarre, detective stories. His magnum opus, the experimental mystery <em>Dogura Magura<\/em>, was adapted to film in the late 1980s. He passed from a cerebral hemorrhage in 1936.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><b>Joyce Zonana<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> recently turned to literary translation after a 30-year career as a professor of English literature. In 2015, she was awarded ALTA\u2019s Emerging Translator Mentorship for her work on Henri Bosco\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Malicroix<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, forthcoming from NYRB Classics. Her translation of Tobie Nathan\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ce pays qui te ressemble<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This Land That Is Like You<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> won a 2017 PEN\/Heim Translation Fund grant, and is forthcoming from Seagull Books. In 2008, Joyce published a memoir, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dream Homes: From Cairo to Katrina, an Exile\u2019s Journey<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (Feminist Press), that focuses on her experiences growing up as an Egyptian Jewish woman in the U.S. She was the very happy recipient of a MacDowell fellowship for translation in February 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>George Abraham is a Palestinian-American Poet, Author, \u00a0Activist, and Engineering PhD candidate at Harvard University.
