One more<br \/>\nthan we gave. The only depth <\/p>\n<p>they knew was depth of color.<br \/>\nThe only moon they knew,<br \/>\na white hole in the wallpaper. <\/p>\n<p>The only stars, sharp-fingered<br \/>\nand near enough to pick at it.<\/p>\n<p>The children weren\u2019t prepared<br \/>\nfor the night they\u2019d find, finally<br \/>\nstepping outside\u2014the sky<\/p>\n<p>wholly black, black root<br \/>\nto tip, the stars like freckles,<br \/>\nthey marveled, no shape at all. <\/p>\n<p>And the moon?
