The Shanks Workshop on Computations and Linear Programming Bounds for Energy, Packing, and Covering will be held May 10-12, 2019 at Vanderbilt University.

The program is organized as an intensive seminar focusing on the use of computational tools to provide insight into geometric optimization problems. The intent is to address the background, design, and implementation of experimental mathematical and rigorous computational approaches to the subject of minimal energy problems, including classical problems of packing and covering.

Invited speakers include David de Laat of Emory University, Peter Dragnev of Purdue University Fort Wayne, Oleg Musin of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, Sergiy Borodachov of Towson University, Robert Womersley of the University of New South Wales, and Peter Grabner of Graz University of Technology.

The organizers of the workshop are Doug Hardin, Woden Kusner, Larry Rolen, and Ed Saff, all of Vanderbilt University. Funding is provided by the Department of Mathematics Shanks Endowment, the National Science Foundation, and Vanderbilt University Research Funds.
