Through Immersion Vanderbilt, students have the option to have their international immersive experiences and projects recognized on the transcript. Students who are engaged in study abroad, overseas research, overseas internships, and other international opportunities have the potential to transform ideas into action, refine skills, and integrate knowledge with experience.
Approximately 40 percent of graduating seniors report studying abroad during their time at Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt students also engage in other international experiences. Emma Hart, Peabody
Majors: Child Development and Public Policy
Hart, a Peabody Scholar, spent last summer in the Netherlands interning at the Bernard Van Leer Foundation, a private foundation focused on developing and sharing knowledge about early childhood development. Emma applied design thinking skills that she honed through her involvement with Design for America at Vanderbilt, to help the foundation's team create a keystone document. Read more.
Erica Copenhaver, Engineering
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Copenhaver spent a semester in Pune, India through the Institute for Study Abroad (IFSA) and utilized her skills to develop a research study that assisted a local hospital's Prosthetic Center. Erica conducted over 150 hours of research for the facility, and helped provide equitable access to those who need this valuable resource. Read more.

Majors: International Development and Social Change
Jones went to Kathmandu in Nepal through the SIT programs at Vanderbilt to research how local funding sources affect theatre productions. For four weeks, she conducted research in the tight-knit theatre community, which shared stories of an emerging Nepali theatre. Read more.
