“iDialogues” is an 8-week educational series that creates an opportunity for both undergraduate and graduate students to engage in intergroup dialogue through the lens of social group identity, power dynamics, conflict, and community. This program is designed for students to develop a broad and comprehensive understanding of how to become agents of social change in the context of both Vanderbilt and its surrounding communities.
This session will focus on the importance of setting dialogue norms and expectations. Students will set their own guidelines and comfort levels and explore the purpose and power of dialogue.
This session will focus on developing an understanding of social identities and how they affect one’s perceptions of the world around them. Students will discuss their experiences with and understandings of various parts of their identity.
This session will focus on how prejudices and social inequality are socially constructed over long periods of time. Students will discuss how they are taught about identity throughout their lifetimes and how historical events continue play a role in the perpetuation of inequality in the present.
This session will focus on the concepts of power, privilege, and systems of oppression. Students will analyze the various ways oppressive systems operate and intersect to influence people’s lived experiences.
This session will focus on participating in dialogue and making meaning of difficult and controversial issues that impact American society broadly

This session will focus on how students can become agents of social change in their various communities and social spheres. Students will make meaning of social justice and equity while engaging in dialogue about steps they can take to make society and campus more equitable for all.
Students will have the opportunity to connect with community partners off campus who are actively involved in social justice work.
