VU Alum, Rich Hull, Wins NAACP Image Award

Vanderbilt-in-Hollywood Co-Founder and Vanderbilt alum, Rich Hull, followed up his NAACP Image Award nomination with a big win in the Best Documentary category.  FOR LOVE OF LIBERTY: THE STORY OF AMERICA’S BLACK PATRIOTS beat out the odds-on favorite, WAITING FOR SUPERMAN. Hull and his team, including Halle Berry, director Frank Martin, fellow producer Louis Gossett Jr, and many others, started FOR LOVE OF LIBERTY almost 10 years ago.  The film tells the untold story of African-American soldiers who have fought in every US war the nation has undertaken.  It features over 50 celebrities, including Morgan Freeman, Danny Glover, Bill Cosby, John Goodman, John Travolta, Susan Sarandon, Robert Duvall, James Garner, Blair Underwood, and many more.  Vanderbilt was the first major university in the nation to host a pre-release screening of the film, presented on-campus by Vanderbilt-in-Hollywood.

General Colin Powell, who wrote and filmed the introduction for FOR LOVE OF LIBERTY, also received the evening’s NAACP Chairman’s Award.

The Vandy-in-Hollywood program has been a tremendous asset for IMAX. Vandy-in-Hollywood interns's... initiative, drive, intelligence, and character speak volumes about the exceptional quality of students and education at Vanderbilt.
