4. CLAUDIA PAZ Y PAZ WILL BE IN A SPECIAL PANEL AT LASA

This LASA session features Claudia Paz (and Kate Doyle). It was just scheduled, so people might not be aware of it, and it's likely that some GSNers will want to attend. Many thanks.

An international panel appointed by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights to investigate the Ayotzinapa student abductions concludes there was a massive cover-up by the Mexican government. What are the next steps to unearth the fate of the disappeared in Mexico and support the victims? How is the Ayotzinapa investigation a road map for confronting impunity in Mexico and elsewhere in Latin America? This session offers an opportunity to converse directly with two members of the Ayotzinapa panel, both with long trajectories in the field of human rights in Latin America.

My name is Margaret Jennings and I am an immigration attorney in Wilmington North Carolina. I have a client who we need to file an application for asylum ASAP based on the fact that he left Guatemala due to the conflict between an electrical company that is supported by the government and indigenous Guatemalans who are fighting to preserve their land.

He is scheduled for a hearing on July 7 which means I have to have filed the application prior to that date.

I was given your information from Hendrick Voss from SOA Watch and hopeful that you can make a speedy referral for an environmental expert. We are also in need of Mam interpreters Should you have questions please do not hesitate to contact me at 910-620-7551.

With kindest regards,

6. EXPERT WITNESS NEEDED REGARDING GANG VIOLENCE IN GUATEMALA

Thank you for reviewing this withholding-only application for our client, Pedro Pablo XXXXX.

Please note that our client presents as the male family member of an unprotected woman in Guatemala, for which he has been brutally beaten by maros. His father was similarly beaten to death.  His wife has been forced into hiding.

His hearing has been moved to June 1, 2016 @ 1pm.  An expert witness is greatly needed in this case. If you can, please contact me by cell phone tomorrow any time before 1pm, and I’ll gladly accept  your call.

Kindest regards,
