Join the Intercultural Greek Council (IGC)

Joining an IGC Fraternity or Sorority

Our community is currently home to one IGC organization and we are seeking to continue expanding this council.  Potential members will have the opportunity to learn about and engage with current and alumni members of IGC organizations. Each affiliate organization will implement its respective internationally sanctioned membership intake process. IGC chapters will advertise their membership intake process through fliers and on social media. All students are welcome to attend to learn more about an organization or express interest. These fliers will always be posted outside of the Office of Greek Life or on social media (if allowed) no less than a week before said meeting. To learn more about IGC organizations, interested students are encouraged to research their individual organization and chapter websites, follow organizations on social media, and attend various events hosted by IGC organizations on campus.

Eligibility Requirements for Potential IGC Members

In order to be eligible to join an IGC fraternity or sorority, a potential member must:

• Have at least a 2.50 GPA and have completed at least 12 credit hours. Some organizations may require that you have a higher GPA or have completed more credit hours. Please refer to their individual websites to determine what their specific qualifications are.
• Not currently be on disciplinary probation. Students can be placed on disciplinary probation for violations of state law and university policy, including but not limited to underage consumption of alcohol, intoxication, possession or use of fake identification, fighting or drug usage.
• Attend a Consent Education Session. Project Safe, our center for sexual misconduct and prevention response, host these sessions specifically for potential fraternity and sorority members.
• Attend an Intake Seminar hosted by the Office of Greek Life by the appropriate deadline. Students must be present the entire duration of the seminar in order to receive full credit. Intake Seminars must be done again every two years if membership is not obtained within that time span. Intake seminars only are valid for two years from the semester it is completed. (ex. Intake seminar done in Fall 2022 will only be valid until the end of the Fall 2024.). The deadline to attend and Intake Seminar and join this Fall semester is September 19th and for Spring semester joining is February 20th.

IGC Information Session

The IGC Information Session is a new opportunity to learn about the organizations within the Intercultural Greek Council. This program features historical information about the IGC on Vanderbilt’s campus, an overview of the groups currently present on campus, and will give you an opportunity to meet members from the organizations. This year’s event will take place on September 21st, in the Community Event Space beginning at 6:00 pm.

2022-2023 Intake Seminars

If you attend the IGC Informational, you will be able to forego attending another Intake Seminar session.

Intake Seminars provide critical information about the history and operation of the IGC on Vanderbilt’s campus and is mandatory to join an IGC organization on our campus. Failure to arrive on time may result in not receiving credit for attendance. No particular attire is required. Intake Seminars will be held at the following times throughout this year:

• September 5th
• September 11th
• September 19th
• September 25th
• October 3rd
• October 16th

All sessions will be held from 4:00 pm-5:00 pm in Sarratt 325/327. Spring dates will be available in December.
