How to Join

Vanderbilt University is home to four governing councils that each contribute to the overall success of our community. Each council, and their member organizations strive to provide a beneficial experience to all of its members. The links below will provide you with more information about the recruitment or membership intake processes for each council.

Eligibility Requirements For All Potential New Members

In order to be eligible to join any fraternity or sorority within our community, a potential member must:

  • Have at least a 2.50 grade point average and have completed at least 12 credit hours
    For potential new members planning to participate in Panhellenic recruitment, there is an appeal form that will be available December 1st that you can fill out if you won’t meet one or both of these requirements.
  • Not currently be on disciplinary probation
  • Attend a Consent Education session offered by Project Safe
  • Satisfy the additional joining requirements for the Council in which they are pursuing membership

National Pan-Hellenic Council

A collaborative organization of nine historically African American, international Greek lettered fraternities and sororities. The nine NPHC organizations are sometimes collectively referred to as the “Divine Nine. Vanderbilt is currently home to eight of these organizations. For more information, contact Ashton Sawyers.

Interfraternity Council

The Interfraternity Council (IFC) is the local governing body for North American Interfraternity Conference fraternity chapters at Vanderbilt University. For more information, contact Cam Alden.

Panhellenic Council

An umbrella organization for 26 inter/national women’s sororities. Each member group is autonomous as a social, Greek-letter society of college women and alumnae. We have nine of the 26 represented at Vanderbilt. For more information, contact Destiny Savage.

Intercultural Greek Council

The governing council for Vanderbilt’s culturally or identity-based fraternal organizations. This council is currently pursuing expansion efforts. For more information, contact Ashton Sawyers.
