This study center program focuses on Tibetan religion, culture, and identity in the the context of geopolitics. As part of their coursework in contemporary Tibetan and Himalayan society, sciences, religion, and arts, students take a high-altitude Himalayan trek to visit isolated Tibetan communities. Students also study Tibetan language (and can choose to also learn Nepali). Students live with a host family in Kathmandu, as well as participate in village homestay in the Himalayas. During their study abroad experience, students also partake in excursions around Nepal. At the end of the program, students will spend four weeks working on an independent research project or in an internship. Students can choose to do the research or internship in Nepal or Dharamsala, India, or potentially elsewhere.
