In this program, facilitated by CIEE, students enroll directly at Sophia University in Tokyo, a city that has mastered the balance of ancient tradition and ultra-modern convenience. The goals of this program are to help students of all Japanese language abilities further develop their Japanese skills and increase their knowledge about Japan and its people. Housing is provided in the form of either homestays with a Japanese family or a dorm, managed by Japanese staff who communicate with students and plan activities. Sophia University is a prestigious private, Jesuit institution offering an extensive curriculum in English and Japanese. Students can explore popular destinations in Japan, including Nikko, Yokohama, Zen gardens, the Meiji Shrine, the Kabuki Theatre, and more.
