Faculty Led interactive Cinematic eXplorations

The Vanderbilt Film Studies Program and the Office of the Dean of Students, in partnership with the historic Belcourt Theatre in Hillsboro Village, have developed an initiative to promote faculty-student conversations centered on foreign, independent, and classic films: FLiCX, or Faculty-Led interactive Cinematic eXplorations.

Students and the faculty discussion leader register for a scheduled screening, and The Office of the Dean of Students purchases tickets.  The faculty member meets the students at the Belcourt (or in some cases, meets them on campus and walks over with the group). Following the film screening, the faculty member comments on the film and encourages  students and other audience members to articulate their thoughts about what they have seen.

Faculty interested in being a discussion facilitator for a particular film may write to flicx@vanderbilt.edu. (Note that the initiative is in partnership with the Belcourt Theatre, so screenings are limited to films playing there.)

Students and faculty may register for one or more of the screenings by completing the online registration form.

Anyone wishing to keep abreast of FLICX screenings and other issues may subscribe to FLICXmail by completing the subscription form.

For directions to the theatre, see Google Maps. Click on “Get directions: To here” and in the “Start address” field, type in “2400 Vanderbilt Place, Nashville, TN.”
