Bryan Millis

Research Assistant Professor, Department of Cell and Developmental Biology

My research focuses on development and application of cutting-edge microscopy and image analysis techniques for biomedical research. I have a special interest in catalyzing a highly-collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment where experts in biology, medicine, engineering, physics, and data science can come together in a focused way to solve complex, long-standing biomedical research challenges through biophotonics approaches. Such approaches also catalyze data science efforts, as the field develops novel mechanisms to handle and process “big data”. As such, I am part of a team whose main goal is to serve the Vanderbilt research community with imaging technologies to address their research interests. Outside these goals, I also have a particular interest in elucidating how cells, the fundamental building blocks of our tissues, use biomechanical force to accomplish tissue-specific functions.
