Independent Study

Per A&S guidelines, independent studies must be rigorous, scholarly, and sufficiently different from existing courses.  Moreover, they are available only in rare situations.  In general, only students who are in the second semester of their senior year and have already completed the vast majority of CMST requirements are eligible for an independent study.

Even when students are eligible, they must still satisfy other requirements.  They need to secure a faculty advisor in the CMST department and the approval of the A&S Dean’s Office.

Ultimately, independent study requests are at the discretion of CMST faculty.

More information on independent studies can be found on the A&S Dean’s Office website.
