Congrats to Professor Kim
Last week at the National Communication Association Conference in Baltimore, Professor Bohyeong Kim received the Top Paper Award in the Economics, Communication, and Society Division for her paper “Moral Economy of a Foreclosure Auction in South Korea.”
The paper tells the story of a group of lay Koreans who studied property auctions together, not necessarily to become homeowners but to become house flippers. Ethnographic accounts of the investment study group demonstrate how its participants worked collectively to develop moral justifications for bidding on foreclosed homes in order to address their felt sense of stigma. Thus, the paper draws attention to the centrality of moral discourses in the ordinary, economic life of contemporary South Korea.
Congratulations, Professor Kim!
