Amy Lynne Hill: 1417
I developed the photoseries 1417 in response to the changing landscape of Nashville I encountered upon moving back to my hometown after ten years away. Both the city and the house I grew up in seemed to exist in a simultaneous state of stasis and transformation. To capture this feeling of dissonance I juxtaposed images of my aging suburban Nashville home with Google descriptions of restaurants from some of Nashville’s trendy and rapidly gentrifying neighborhoods. The photoseries is accompanied by an oral presentation of the project in which I tell the stories behind each picture and reflect on my relationship to my home in the face of sometimes beautiful, often problematic, but seemingly inevitable change.
