Brightspace Workshops

Summer 2017 Workshops

In these hands-on workshops, participants will learn about Vanderbilt’s new course management system, Brightspace. Bring your own laptop computer so you can explore and build content in our test course! By the end of the session, users will be able to:

  • Confidently navigate the different areas of a Brightspace course
  • Post, edit, and copy content for students using a variety of tools
  • Communicate with students about important Brightspace tools

In addition to these workshops, you can get individual help during drop-in hours at the CFT.


Introduction to Brightspace

In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn about Vanderbilt’s new course management system, Brightspace. Bring your own laptop computer so you can explore and build content in our test course! By the end of the session, users will be able to:

Creating & Grading Assignments on Brightspace

In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn about creating assignment submission folders and providing feedback on those assignments on Brightspace. Bring your own laptop so you can explore and build content in our test course! By the end of the session, users will be able to:
-Create an assignment on Brightspace and navigate the different options for assignments
-Assess student submissions using one of 5 available grading and feedback tools
-Communicate with students about how to view assignment grades and feedback in Brightspace

The Gradebook on Brightspace

In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn about setting up a gradebook, grading student work, and sharing those grades with students on Brightspace. Bring your own laptop computer so you can explore and build content in our test course! By the end of the session, users will be able to:
-Confidently navigate the different areas of a Brightspace gradebook
-Assess student work using the gradebook tools
-Choose the gradebook set up options that best fit the course

Discussion Boards on Brightspace

In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn about creating, managing, and providing feedback using the Discussions tool on Brightspace. Bring your own laptop computer so you can explore and build content in our test course! By the end of the session, users will be able to:
-Confidently navigate the Discussions tool
-Chose the discussion type and the assessment method that best fits the course
-Communicate with students about how to view responses and feedback in Brightspace

Quizzes & Surveys on Brightspace

In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn about using quizzes and surveys on Brightspace. Bring your own laptop computer so you can explore and build content in our test course! By the end of the session, users will be able to:
-Confidently navigate the Quiz and Survey tools as well as the Question Library for those tools
-Assess and provide feedback on quizzes
-Communicate with students about how to view grades and feedback in Brightspace

In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn about creating and managing groups of students on Brightspace. Bring your own laptop computer so you can explore and build content in our test course! By the end of the session, users will be able to:
-Confidently navigate the Groups tool
-Understand the uses for the types of groups and group options
-Create group areas for discussion, file sharing, and group assignment submissions
