Family Welcome & Harambee March

Please join us Saturday, August 18, 2019 at 2:30 p.m.

Vanderbilt’s annual Move-In Day has been a long-standing tradition which has grown significantly since the opening of the Ingram Commons for our first-year students.  Along with the many Move-In Day activities the Black Cultural Center has its own programs and traditions which now includes a Family Welcome and Harambee March.  This cultural and community building program celebrates the ever more diverse campus Vanderbilt has become.  First-year students of color who participate in this program will march from a designated area on campus into the BCC, all to the beat of African drummers and the cheers of upper-class students, faculty, staff, and alumni.  There is food, tours of the BCC and student organizations and various campus partners hosting information tables.  Finally, this will be an opportunity to ask questions about life on campus for students of color, particularly African, Caribbean and African American students.
