Roy Blount Jr., BA’63, and John Hindle, BA’68, PhD’81, are among the six recipients to be honored by the Vanderbilt Alumni Association Board.

Blount will receive the Alumni Professional Achievement Award that recognizes alumni who have distinguished themselves through their professional accomplishments, and whose contributions honor the legacy of excellence at Vanderbilt University.

“Roy is a phenomenal writer who has entertained generations of readers and audiences with both his wit and wisdom,” said Jodie Leeka Kim, BE’10, ME’11, awards committee chair for the Alumni Association Board. “It is an honor to celebrate his extraordinary career.”

A celebrated author, columnist and humorist, Blount is a member of the Fellowship of Southern Writers, the Georgia Writers Hall of Fame, and the Vanderbilt University Student Media Hall of Fame.

Hindle is the 2019 recipient of Alumni Volunteer Award, presented annually to an alumnus or alumna who has positively represented the university and its mission through a significant pattern of volunteer service on its behalf.

“John has been a leader among Vanderbilt’s volunteers for many years,” said Kim, “He is an outstanding example to all alumni.”

Hindle has served Vanderbilt through many volunteer roles, including president of the London Vanderbilt Chapter, president of the Vanderbilt Alumni Association Board and as Alumni Trustee on the Board of Trust.

The 2019 alumni award recipients will be honored Oct. 17 at a special ceremony during Reunion and Homecoming Weekend. More information about the Vanderbilt Alumni Association Awards is at vuconnect.com/awards.
